The Heart of the Jungle

Let us begin by saying that the jungle provided us with an unbelievable and unique experience! Secondly, each and every outfitter both in the states and abroad chooses to provide varying levels of quality- however, in the end, everyone ends up in the same piece of jungle or river that they sought out. From Iquitos, we took a two hour bus ride to Nauta where we boarded a river taxi for our two hour ride to base camp.

Once in base camp, the jungle beckoned! Humidity, humidity, humidity...So close to full sumbersion that it is amazing the camera still works- and that we are finally dry! The heat was not too intense, unless you were directly in the equatorial sun- which thankfully was not often. The jungle is very dense with growth and unimaginably expansive, thus making wildlife spotting somewhat difficult and a game of luck. However, we were able to see: lyar birds, caimen, giant bull frogs, various species of monkeys, snakes, numerous insect species (some of which bite quite ferociously), sloths, pink and grey dolphins, several fish species, macaws, parrots, and numerous others. We were also intoduced to countless medicinal plants from AIDS and cancer cures, to tinctures that are used to cure stomach ailments.

It was a very wet experience, dropping buckets of rain at least every afternoon. We took numerous canoe rides on various rivers

into even more remote lagoons. We fished for and swam with pirahnas and whatever else loomed in the brown water. Now we head out of the jungle and to the coast- for what will be more amazing adventures!
Check out our very own Tarzan in the video below!

That was excellent! It truly looks like you guys are in the middle of no where! Unbelievable. I hope you have gotten over your tourist bug though. Wow! Maybe when you get out of the jungle you can dry off a bit!

Love you!
